Plans for Prairiefire's final phase, called the Village Center, have been revised to include more apartments, less office space and a 23 percent increase in the mixed-use project's overall density.

The Overland Park City Council voted 9-2 Monday to approve the revised preliminary plan, with Councilmen Dan Stock and John Thompson opposing the changes.

Located on the south side of 135th Street between Lamar and Nall avenues, Prairiefire originally was approved in 2006. The project, developed by Merrill Cos. LLC, was subsequently delayed by the recession, and changing market conditions prompted previous plan revisions in 2008, 2012 and 2013.
